A fire broke out yesterday afternoon
The majority of patients have now been evacuated from Wexford General Hospital this morning, following a fire at the site last night.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has met with staff and management this morning, and is expected to issue a statement shortly.
41 of the 200 patients who were being treated at Wexford General hospital remain onsite this morning,
Patients to date have been transferred to several hospitals across the country including St.Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny, University Hospital Waterford, Our Lady’s Hospital Navan and St.Vincent’s and the Mater Hospital in Dublin.
Plans are still being worked out, but what is known is that Wexford General Hospital’s Maternity Services will be temporarily transferred to University Waterford.
It comes as a major emergency was declared at the site yesterday, after a fire at one of the buildings caused major damage.
The hospital's A&E will remain closed until further notice, and all elective procedures and outpatient appointments scheduled for have been cancelled.
