The CSO today published the Vital Statistics Yearly Summary 2025 report
There has been a decline of nearly 18 per cent in the number of births registered in Ireland in the last ten years.
Figures from the CSO's Vital Statistics Yearly Summary 2025 report show the average age of first time mothers increased by 1.1 years in that time, from 30.7 years in 2015 to 31.8 last year.
The fertility rate for 2025 stood at 1.5, a decrease of 0.4 from the 2015 fertility rate of 1.9.
The number of deaths registered in 2025 were also included, standing at 35,587.
That is an increase of 414 than the 2024 figure of 35,173.
There were 19,898 marriages registered in 2025, down from 20,348 in 2024.
People aged 65 and over accounted for just over 83 per cent of all deaths in 2025.
The marriage rate in 2025 was 3.6 marriages per 1,000 of population, which compares with 4.8 marriages per 1,000 population in 2015.
