Less than half of people surveyed believed Gardaí provided a world-class police service.
A new survey shows 8 in 10 people trust Gardaí but just half of victims of crime were satisfied with how their case was handled.
The respondents to the survey said sexual offences and human trafficking should be the top priorities for the force.
This survey was carried out online over four months in 2020 and found 85% of people considered Gardaí to be friendly or helpful, with 81% trusting members of the force.
However, less than half of people surveyed believed Gardaí provided a world-class police service.
Some 53% of victims of crime were satisfied with how Gardaí handled their case, while 26% said they got too little information and 30% said they got no satisfactory update on the status of their investigation.
Some 66% of respondents viewed national crime as a ‘very serious’ or ‘serious problem.'
Gardaí say the survey can’t be directly compared with previous studies as it was carried out online and there was a higher level of people living in urban areas.
