He said that nobody can accept that the tokenistic 'small print' warnings
President Michael D Higgins has said that there are questions to be answered about the amount of gambling ads across all media platforms.
In a statement he said that nobody can accept that the tokenistic 'small print' warnings and invitations to be 'responsible' are in any way in proportion to the possible damage being inflicted by the lure of sports gambling ads.
Earlier this month, the President spoke at Tiglin rehabilitation centre, where he said gambling causes so much damage to families and individuals.
He has welcomed the fact that the publication and broadcasting of sports gambling ads is increasingly up for debate.
Labour Senator, Kildare Mark Wall has called on the Government to adopt legislation to ban the ads:
One of a number of times this year that the President has stuck the boot into gambling advertisements in sport.
