He had extensive injuries - consistent with someone violently shaking him as well as forcefully striking his head against a hard surface.
The mother of a boy who was murdered by his stepmother has told her sentence hearing his life was taken by the hands of “pure evil.”
The woman, who can’t be named for legal reasons, stood trial last year but changed her plea to guilty after a few days of evidence.
At the time of his death, the boy was living with his father and stepmother.
An emergency call placed by the boy’s father reported that his son had fallen from the top bunk and couldn’t be roused.
He died in hospital a few days later from a traumatic head injury.
He had extensive injuries - consistent with someone violently shaking him as well as forcefully striking his head against a hard surface.
The evidence suggested this wasn’t an isolated incident.
Family members noted how he was rarely available for video calls and often left in his bedroom during visits.
At today’s sentence hearing, the boy’s mother described her son as her perfect little boy.
She said he was taken by someone he loved and trusted - someone “so evil.”
His stepmother will be sentenced on Wednesday.
