The Sinn Féin motion - if passed - will amend the legislation that was signed into law in September 2018
TDs will have a free vote in the Dáil today on whether to remove the three day wait period for an abortion.
The Sinn Féin motion - if passed - will amend the legislation that was signed into law in September 2018.
Just six weeks ago a Social Democrats bill on abortion was rejected by the Dáil.
The party were calling for the end of the wait period for an abortion as well as the revision of criteria for a termination on the grounds of fatal foetal abnormality.
It also wanted criminal elements around the current legislation to be removed.
Sinn Féin's proposal today is much simpler - its looking to remove the mandatory three day wait period for an abortion in early pregnancy.
Unlike the Social Democrats bill the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and Health Minister have indicated their support for the bill to go through to committee stage.
Voting will take place in the Dáil chamber around 10 o'clock tonight.
