The former Ireland and Leinster boss took over the Wallabies following their poor showing at the 2023 World Cup on a contract though to the end of this summer's Lions Tour of Australia.
Schmidt says he's leaving the position because he wants to spend more time with his family in New Zealand and Australia have now begun their search for a fourth head coach in a little over four years.
