High Hopes 3000

Tuesday Morning Sports Update

Keeping you up to date on GAA, soccer and snooker.

GAA

The GAA and the AFL are reportedly in talks to bring back the International Rules series next year.

The Herald Sun in Australia is reporting that at least one game is being pitched for next October, with a return series in Australia the following year.

Ireland and Australia last played an International Rules game in 2017.

The negotiations come amid attempts by the GAA to curb the number of young Gaelic footballers being recruited by AFL sides.

SOCCER

St Pats suffered a major blow to their hopes of claiming the League of Ireland Premier Division title last night.

A 1-0 defeat at Derry City leaves the Saints six points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers with two games to go.

Elsewhere, Waterford lifted themselves out of the relegation play-off space with a 3-2 win over Galway United

A late winner from Tommy Lonergan saw the Blues over the line at the R-S-C, after they had gone 2-nil up on the visitors.

Tottenham climbed off the bottom of the Premier League table with their first win of the season last night.

Goals from James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies helped Spurs to a 3-1 win at home to Coventry City.

UEFA has given FIFA a deadline of November the 2nd to answer questions over a series of governance and decision-making issues.

They've sent a letter to the governing body stating they have failed to provide key details surrounding a proposed World Cup investment plan.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino apologised for the proposal at a council meeting last week, but UEFA says a number of fundamental questions remain unanswered.

SNOOKER

Ronnie O'Sullivan is the latest big name to crash out of the Northern Ireland Open at the first round.

The seven-time World Champion lost the deciding frame to Hong Kong qualifier Ka Wai Cheung.

O'Sullivan became the eighth top-16 player to suffer a first-round exit at this year's tournament in Belfast.

This afternoon, there's an all-Antrim affair between World Number 12 Mark Allen and Jordan Brown.

That first-to-four-frames match gets underway in the Waterfront Hall from 1pm.
