Gillespie secured the victory following a strong performance across the 100-lap event, overtaking her closest rival on the final bend to seal the title.
Lara Gillespie has claimed gold in the points race at the UCI World Track Championships in China.
The Wicklow cyclist finished on 42 points, five ahead of Denmark's Amalie Dideriksen, with Belgium's Shari Bossuyt taking bronze.
Gillespie secured the victory following a strong performance across the 100-lap event, overtaking her closest rival on the final bend to seal the title.
It's the 24-year-old's second world championship gold, having won the elimination race in Chile last year.
The victory follows another medal earlier this week, when Gillespie finished second in the scratch race.
