Clancy joins Kellie Harrington at the Olympics in Paris and is guaranteed at least a bronze medal at the European Games.
Following on from Kellie Harrington’s success this morning, fellow lightweight Dean Clancy has also won his quarter-final bout to crucially secure Olympic qualification for Paris, and at least a bronze medal at these Games.
Waterford’s Kelyn Cassidy was devastated to lose his Middleweight quarter-final to Ukrainian Oleksandr Khyzhniak of Ukraine.
Heavyweight Jack Marley secured at least a bronze medal, and booked a spot in the semi-finals, where the winner will secure Olympic qualification, by beating his Croatian opponent 4-1.
Marley is the sixth Irish medal winner at these Games.
Last night the Men’s Rugby Sevens team won gold, with Sarah Lavin claiming hurdles bronze earlier in the week, and Jack Woolley winning silver in Taekwondo.
