Dr Mary McAleese has stepped down as chairperson of the Integration Committee, which is overseeing joining up the GAA, LFGA and the Camogie Association.
It's after the GAA asked for an extension to the timeline for amalgamation.
A Special Congress was due to be held next month, with an agreed plan to complete integration by the end of 2027.
It's understood the GAA was keen to push that date back by five years while remaining "fully committed" to the project.
Former President McAlesee, who's been in the role since 2022, says that change would create a "roadblock" and create "significant uncertainty" about integration.
According to RTÉ, GAA organisations are set to appear before the cross-party Oireachtas Sports Committee to explain the resignation of the former president of Ireland Mary McAleese as chair of the Integration Committee.
The Camogie Association says Mary McAleese’s resignation is a “huge loss” to the integration process.
President Brian Molloy says he shares her disappointment at any move away from the agreed 2027 deadline - insisting any problems were not insurmountable.
He says the Association remains committed to full integration and wants the three bodies brought back onto the original path.
Sports Minister Patrick O’Donovan says integrating the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association remains an “absolute priority”.
He’ll meet the GAA today after former President Mary McAleese resigned as chair of the Integration Committee, saying plans to delay the process beyond the end of next year would create a “roadblock”.
