ATHLETICS

Mark English ran a season's best in the 800 metres semi finals at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last night, but he missed out on a place in the final.

There are no Irish competitors in action today.



SOCCER

There are some top games in the League of Ireland Premier Division tonight.

Leaders Shamrock Rovers host Dundalk, second placed St Pat's go to UCD, and it's third against fourth as Derry City make the trip to Bohemians.

The other tie sees Drogheda United take on Cork City.

All of the matches begin at 7.45.


In the First Division, leaders Galway United host Cobh Ramblers, Bray Wanderers entertain Waterford, It's Athlone Town versus Wexford, Finn Harps play Longford Town and it's Treaty United up against Kerry.


In the Premier League tonight, Chelsea host Luton Town at Stamford Bridge from 8pm.

Aaron Connolly will be hoping to continue his good form in the Championship as Hull City play Bristol City.


And the Republic of Ireland's final game of 2023 will be a friendly match against New Zealand.

The game will take place on Tuesday November 21st at the Aviva Stadium, three days after the conclusion of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.


Liverpool are set to reject any approach by Saudi club Al Ittihad for star forward Mo Salah.

The 31 year old Egyptian is one year into a three year deal worth 400 thousand euro a week at Anfield.

Rory McIlroy carded a level par round of 70 on day one of the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

He is 7 under par.

The lead is shared on 10 under par at East Lake by Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa and Keegan Bradley.


At the Czech Masters, Shane Lowry has moved to 2 under par early in his second round.

Padraig Harrington is also on the course in Prague and he's 1 under.

John Murphy tees off later from 2 under par.

Finland's Sami Valimaki leads the way on 9 under par.

Ireland's World Cup pool opponents South Africa face New Zealand in a warm up game at Twickenham this evening.
