Kildare LGFA Executive Announce Resignations En Masse

An EGM was held last night

The entire Kildare LGFA Executive offered their resignations to the county board last night.

As we reported yesterday, an Emergency General Meeting was called last night.

A statement from Kildare LGFA said that the county board accepted the resignations "with regret".

Nominations are now being sought from clubs to select a new executive committee.

Kfm understands that there has been tension between the county Board on various issues in recent times and that the current controversy concerns opposing views concerning a funding amount for the senior team

Kfm has learned that the women’s senior squad were allocated €180 thousand for this year, an increase from 120,000 last year.

Its also reported that the GPA has given €34,000 to the County Board and there is a view that amount should go to the senior squad, while the Executive’s view is that it should be used for the other teams that represent the county at different levels.

Relationships between the Board and the senior squad haven’t been helped with differences regarding the date for holding last season’s All Ireland winning Dinner celebration, with the Board’s view being that it should be held before the end of 2023, but the players ultimately holding it in January this year.  There was no official county board presence at the January function.

Also, at the opening League game this year, new members of the squad had to borrow gear from the more senior members because not enough new gear had been sourced for the entire squad.  Kfm understands that the Board’s view of that situation is that they had sought final squad number from the management and had been waiting for that confirmation before ordering gear.

Kfm has contacted both sides for comment, but no response has been received.  No media were allowed attend last night’s meeting.

As a result of the Executive resignations, no club games will be scheduled for the foreseeable future.  The unbeaten county senior team will fulfil its League fixtures.

In the interim, Kfm understands that the Leinster Council of the LGFA will assume an oversight role of Kildare Ladies football.
