Kildare lost 2-25 to 0-14 against Kilkenny in Nowlan Park.
Kildare's hopes of retaining their place in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship came to an end after a 4-25 to 0-14 defeat to Kilkenny yesterday.
Brian Dowling's side produced an impressive first-half performance and, despite playing against the wind, trailed by just a single point at the break, 0-11 to 0-10.
However, Kilkenny took control after the first half, scoring four goals and 14 points, while limiting Kildare to just four points.
The result confirms Kildare's relegation from the Leinster Championship, with one game remaining against Offaly next weekend.
There was some positive news for the Lilywhites, who have already secured their Division 1B status in the Allianz Hurling League for next season.
Elsewhere in Leinster, Offaly guaranteed their championship survival with a 2-21 to 2-15 win over Wexford, while a late Brian Hayes goal helped Dublin edge Galway by 3-16 to 0-21.
