Rory McIlroy ended as Europe's top points scorer as Luke Donald's team regained the Ryder Cup yesterday.

The hosts ended as 16-and-a-half to 11-and-a-half winners over the United States in Rome.

Shane Lowry earned a half on Sunday after his match with Jordan Spieth ended all square.

McIlroy won his singles match over Sam Burns to bring his points tally to four for the week.

Speaking afterwards, he said the Ryder Cup is a special event.
