Kildare men footballers got their first League win yesterday, beating Clare 16 points to 15: the winner coming form a Neil Flynn free in the fifth minute of injury time

Kildare trailed by 6 points 15 minutes into the 2nd half and down to 14 players.

But they outscored Clare 8 points to one in the remaining 25 minutes.

In injury time, a Neil Flynn free narrowed the margin to one. 

Daniel Flynn levelled with 4 minutes of injury time gone and then in the final minute, Neil Flynn converted a free for Kildare’s first League win.

Also in Division 2 yesterday:

 Dublin 0-18 Cork 2-10

 Louth 1-15 Limerick 1-13

 Kildare footballers are at home to Derry next Sunday at 2pm

 The hurlers also play Derry next Sunday in Owenbeg.

Diane O Hora’s women footballers lost their unbeaten record by a point to Louth in Hawkfield.

 Final score: Louth 1-5 Kildare 0-7

Kildare are to play Offaly away next Sunday at 2pm.

 

SOCCER  

Marcus Rashford scored twice as Manchester United beat Leicester 3-nil in the Premier League.

United move to within three points of second-placed Manchester City.

Spurs moved into the Champions League places with a 1 nil win over West Ham

 

RUGBY

In the URC, Leinster beat the Dragons and stretch their unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions

In the AIL, Division 1B, Naas won 27-20 away to St. Mary’s College.

In Division 2A, MU Barnhall go top of Division 2A after their 31-14 win over Ballymena


ATHLETICS

At the 123.ie National Indoor Athletics Championships yesterday, Israel Olatunde  broke the Irish 60 metres record with a time of 6.57 seconds.

His time was as fast as the Olympic champion La-mont Jacobs has run this season and ranks 7th in Europe.

 

BOXING

On Saturday night, in Nottingham, Naas lightweight Gary Cully took the WBA Inter-Continental title with a second-round knockout of American Wilfredo Flores.

It was a fifth successive stoppage for Cully, who is unbeaten in 16 fights.

The 6 ft 3 inches 27 year-old is now hoping for a world title shot on the undercard of the Katie Taylor-Amando Serrano rematch, expected to be at Dublin's 3Arena on May 20th.

In the women’s Superleague, Leixlip Amenities Liffey Celtics beat Singleton Supervalu 86-79

Celtics are 6th in the Division and play University Galway Mystics in Leixlip next Saturday.
