The school will be designated for children with autism and those with complex learning needs.
A new special school is set to open in Monasterevin for the new school year.
Ros Glas Community Special School will open in autumn, designated for children with autism and those with complex learning needs between the ages of 4-18.
Enrolment is open from 24 August until 11 September.
The school will be located on Drogheda street in the area on the site of the former St Peters Boys School, with three classes initially at the new school.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Ken Scully, director of schools with Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board says that the school has the potential to grow in the coming years:
"There is potential to grow into the future, it's initially opening with three classes and six students in each class."
Mr Scully added that SNA resourcing will be based on upcoming enrolment later this month:
"The standard is for every special class that opens to have an SNA, however it is needs-based, during enrolment we'll be having to identify the specific needs of the children, and from there we'll be applying and seeking SNA supports for each of those children on an individual needs basis."
