Elsewhere, the new Mayo senior football manager is expected to be confirmed tonight.

It's understood a meeting of the county board is set to take place, with clubs due to ratify James Horan's successor.

Interviews for the position are believed to have taken place over the weekend.

Former county stars Kevin McStay and Ray Dempsey are among those in the running for the position.

SOCCER

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe believes a point was the least his side deserved from yesterday's meeting with Manchester City.

The teams played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at St James' Park, with the hosts taking a 3-1 lead early in the second half.

Elsewhere, Chelsea suffered a 3-0 defeat at Leeds, while Brighton were 2-0 winners over West Ham.

Manchester United will look to register their first points of the Premier League season tonight.

Having lost their first two matches under new manager Erik ten Hag, United welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford.

Kick off is at 8pm.

Shamrock Rovers are seven points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division this morning.

Stephen Bradley's side beat second-placed Dundalk 3-0 in Tallaght last night.

Aaron Greene, Richie Towell and Rory Gaffney scored the goals for the Hoops.

ATHLETICS

Mark English is a two-time European bronze medallist.

After his last podium finish in 2014, the Donegal native came home in third in last night's men's 800-metres final in Munich.

Sarah Lavin finished fifth in the women's 100-metres hurdles final, after clocking a new personal best in the semi-final.

Efrem Gidey was sixth in the final of the men's 10-thousand metres, with Hiko Tonosa in 18th.

GOLF

Shane Lowry agonisingly missed out on a place in this week's Tour Championship last night.

The Offaly man finished in a tie for 12th on eight-under-par at the BMW Championship.

It meant Lowry was left in 31st in the Fed Ex Cup standings - with only the top 30 getting into the season finale.

Rory McIlroy - who is now seventh in the overall standings - finished on nine-under and in a tie for eighth.

Patrick Cantlay won by a shot on 14-under.

Padraig Harrington is celebrating another title on the Champions Tour.

The Dubliner carded a final round of five-under-par 67 to land the Dick's Sporting Goods Open near New York.

Harrington finished on 16-under-par - three shots clear of Thongchai Jaidee in second.

RACING

There's racing in Ballinrobe today.
