The Kildare ladies footballers are All Ireland Champions.

They beat Clare by a single point in yesterdays intermediate decider

First half goals from Trina Duggan and Ellen Dowling gave Kildare a 7 point lead at the break.

Clare fought back to within a point in the dieing minutes but Kildare kept them at bay and made it over the line.

Full time score at Croke Park was 2-11 to 2-10.

Rory McIlroy narrowly missed out on a play-off place at the FedEx St Jude Championship in Memphis last night.

He finished on 14-under-par - with Lucas Glover and Patrick Cantlay both a shot better off.

Glover took victory on the first extra hole.

American Lilia Vu won her second major championship of the year by claiming the Women's Open at Walton Heath.

A final round 67 gave her a total of 14 under par and a 6 shot win over Charley Hull.

Leona Maguire ended back on one over with Stephanie Meadow six over par.

Sligo's Mona McSharry won the 200 metres breaststroke at the European Under 23 championships in Dublin yesterday.

It was her third gold medal of the week.
