GAA

Kildare hurlers had their last Group game in the Leinster senior hurling championship yesterday against Offaly in Cedral St. Conleth's Park.

It resulted in a heavy defeat by 1-28 to 0-15.

 

Dublin beat Kilkenny in championship hurling with a final score: Dublin 1-26 Kilkenny 0-22.

Kilkenny are also out of the All Ireland championship, with Offaly taking the third Leinster spot.

Dublin will play Galway in the Leinster final after Galway beat Wexford by 2-31 to 3-20.

Cork and Limerick will contest next month's Munster Senior Hurling final.

Cork beat Clare 1-30 to 1-14. 

League champions Limerick beat Tipperary by 5-27 to 0-25.

 

All Ireland Round 1 defeat for Kildare footballers vs Galway on Saturday evening.

Playing with the wind in the first half, Kildare trailed 2-8 to 0-12 at half time.

But in the 2nd half,  the Tribesmen added another 1-13 to Kildare's 5 points.

The Final score was Galway 3-21 Kildare 0-17.

 

On Friday  evening, in the Electric Ireland Leinster Minor football final in Portlaoise, Kildare were four points down going in to the final minute of normal time.

Then Logan Tennyson fired home a goal and a point in quick succession to level the game at 1-11 each.

The sides were still level after extra time: Kildare 2-13 to 1-16, Kildare's 2nd goal from full forward Greg Kelly.

The game was decided on a penalty shootout, with Kildare scoring all their 5 to Meath's 3.
 

SOCCER

In the Premier League, Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Brentford guaranteed them Champions League football, and saw Brentford finish ninth, just outside of the European places.

Brighton took eighth and a place in the Conference League, despite losing 3 nil to Manchester United, who return to the Champions League.

Bournemouth missed out on a Champions League place after a 1 all draw with Nottingham Forest.

Sunderland's 2-1 win over Chelsea confirmed their spot in the Europa League next season.

Arsenal celebrated being crowned champions for the first time in 22 years with a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace.

Max Dowman, at 16 years and 144 days, became the youngest player to start a Premier League match and the youngest with a Premier League medal.

West Ham are relegated, despite winning 3-nil against Leeds, that's because Spurs secured their safety with a 1-nil win against Everton.

Burnley came from behind to avoid finishing bottom, after a 1-1 draw with Wolves.

 

RACING

Precise led home an Aidan O'Brien 1-2 in the Tattersalls 1000 Guineas at the Curragh.

Under the ride of Wayne Lordan, she reversed the result of the English 1000 Guineas, to see off the challenge of stablemate True Love.
