Eadestown beat St. Laurence's in Joe Mallon Motors Preliminary Quarter Final

Eadestown beat St. Laurence's by 3-13 to 1-16 in the Joe Mallon Motors Senior Football Championship Preliminary Quarter Final in Hawkfield last night.


They will meet Clane in the quarter-finals, next Sunday, 4th September.

 

Ellistown and Ballyteague contest their Auld Shebeen Bar Athy Intermediate Football Preliminary Quarter Final  at St Conleth’s Park this afternoon.
Throw in is at 3.45.

There has been a change of venue for today’s Manguard Plus Minor Football League 2 Final

Clane and Round Towers will now meet at Conleth’s at 12.00.

The Newbridge ground is also the venue for today’s Tom Cross Transport Junior Football Championship game between Castlemitchell and Cappagh at 2.00.

At the same time, Ardclough and Athgarvan and Rheban and Kildangan play in Hawkfield.

Maynooth University Town play League of Ireland First Division side Treaty United in the FAI Cup this evening.

Malahide United face Waterford at 5.00

 

An extra-time penalty from Robbie Benson ended Wexford’s dreams of a quarter-final place last night.

The First Division side had come from behind to lead Dundalk 2-1 at Ferrycarrig Park, but Ryan O’Kane’s goal forced extra-time before Benson won the tie for the Lilywhites.


Goals from Will Patching and Sadou Diallo saw Derry City beat ten-man Cork City 2-nil at the Ryan McBride Brandywell.

There was to be no romance for both non-league sides in action last night.

Lucan United had a man sent off in a 2-nil loss to Bohemians.

While Dan Carr’s brace helped Shelbourne beat Ulster Senior League side Bonagee United 4-nil.

And Tom Lonergan scored twice as UCD won 3-2 away to Galway United.

After their European excursion, Women’s National League leaders Shelbourne return to domestic matters this evening.

The reigning champions are away to Galway from 7.35.

Wexford Youths start the day just two-points off Shels, and they’re away to Bohemians from 6.

Elsewhere today DLR Waves face Cork City, Peamount take on Treaty United, and Athlone play Sligo Rovers.

Eric ten Hag’s side are away to Southampton.

The peloton face five categorised climbs, including the finish on the Collau Fancuaya.

Remco Evenepoel wears the overall leader’s red jersey, with a 21-second advantage over Rudy Molard.

 


HOCKEY

Ireland will complete their first phase of qualifiers for the 2023 Men’s EuroHockey Championships later.

They play Turkey, knowing top spot in their group is all-but out of reach.

France top the group, and they play whipping boys Lithuania at lunchtime.

Ireland-Turkey is underway at 10am.

 

RACING

There’s an eight-race card at the Curragh this afternoon, with the first off at 1.20.

 


AMERICAN FOOTBALL

After a six-year absence the College Football Classic returns to the Aviva Stadium this evening.

The Northwestern University Wildcats take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
