Manchester United have made a winning start to the Premier League season.

Defender Raphael Varane scored the winner 14 minutes from time as the Red Devils beat Wolves 1-0 at Old Trafford last night.

Wolves were unlucky not to get something out of the game and were denied a penalty appeal when United keeper Andre Onana appeared to foul Sasa Kalajdzic in stoppage time.

Wolves boss Gary O'Neil says elite referees manager Jon Moss apologised to him for the incident going unpunished.

Rangers bring a 2-1 lead to Switzerland for the second leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie against Servette tonight.

Kick off is at 7.30.

In transfer news, Southampton's 19 year old midfielder Romeo Lavia is believed to want to join Chelsea over Liverpool.

Chelsea have already beaten Liverpool to sign Moises Caicedo this week.

And Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy is reported to be attracting interest from Crystal Palace and Everton, which would strengthen Gavin Bazunu's hold on the number one jersey at St Mary's.

RUGBY

England captain Owen Farrell will likely learn his fate today following the red card he received in Saturday's match with Wales.

He faces a disciplinary hearing that could affect his participation at the World Cup.

England's first two Pool matches in France are the toughest they will face - against Argentina and Japan.

HORSE RACING

There's a race meeting on the all weather at Dundalk today from 1.40.
