Donegal have secured the services of Jim McGuinness as their senior football manager for 2027.

The 53-year-old returned for a second stint in charge in 2023, and has since guided the county to two Ulster Championship and a league title.

The Donegal county board ratified McGuinness for a further season at a meeting last night.

 

SOCCER

The Champions League gets up and running this evening, with the opening round of league games.

Fresh from getting the winner against Real Madrid on Friday night, Troy Parrott and his Real Betis side go to Lille.

Kick-off in the French city is at 8pm.

At the same time, Manchester City begin another European campaign with a trip to Porto.

While Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho faces his former club Inter at the Bernabeu.

Aston Villa are in Belgium to take on Club Brugge at 5.45pm.

 

The third round of the EFL Cup also gets underway this evening.

There's an all-Premier League encounter at the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland hosting Hull City from 7:45pm.

Bournemouth host Lincoln City, and Crystal Palace entertain Middlesbrough,

Newcastle United are away at Millwall from 8pm.

 

West Ham will look to make it three Championship wins on the bounce tonight.

They travel to newly-promoted Bolton for an 8pm start.

In the 7:45pm kick-offs, leaders Swansea face a tough test away to Southampton.

While Jamie Vardy could be included in the Burnley squad for their clash with Wrexham.

Cardiff host Stoke, Sheffield United travel to Blackburn and Watford take on Preston.


RACING

There's an eight-race card on offer in Galway today.

The first race goes to post just before 3.45pm.

The going is soft with light rain forecast.
