Wednesday Morning Sports Update

Keeping you up to date on soccer, golf and racing.

SOCCER

England will have to wait until the final game of their World Cup group stage to seal their spot in the last 32.

They were held to a nil-all draw against Ghana in Boston last night.

The result leaves the Three Lions and the Black Stars level on four points of Group L, with England top on goal difference.

Croatia are just behind, as their 1-0 win over Panama gave them their first points of the tournament.

Ante Budimir came off the bench to strike in the second half.

Meanwhile, DR Congo failed to follow up on their impressive draw with Portugal - they lost 1-0 to Colombia.

Crystal Palace full back Daniel Munoz bagged the winner midway through the second half.

It leaves the South American nation top of the pile in Group K.

The final round of group stage fixtures gets underway today.

First up is Group B - Switzerland face Canada at 8pm, who are both on four points.

While Bosnia and Herzegovina take on Qatar at the same time, they both just have a point.

Then at 11, it's Group C's turn as Morocco face a winless Haiti.

While Scotland face five-time winners Brazil - with Steve Clarke's side needing a draw to guarantee a spot in the round of 32.

However, a narrow loss may also see them advance as one of the eight best third-place finishers.

Didier Deschamps will miss France's final group stage game with Norway this Friday to attend his mother's funeral.

Assistant coach Guy Stephan will lead the squad's training sessions throughout the week, and will be in the dugout to face their European rivals on Friday.

Les Blues have already advanced from the group stage, following wins in their opening two games.

GOLF

Tiger Woods says the revamped PGA Tour is about building the "strongest possible" competition.

The tour confirmed a new two-tier system will come into place from 2028 - the Championship Series for elite players and a Challenger Series below.

It's also yet to be decided if their alliance with the DP World Tour will continue under the new rules.

RACING

The going is good to yielding at Naas ahead of a seven race card there this morning.

The first race goes to post at 5:10pm.
