Wednesday Sports Update: Cork's John O'Shea Knocked Out Of PDC Championship.

The Republic of Ireland have announced a friendly against Latvia next year.

Cork’s John O’Shea suffered a disappointing first round exit at the PDC World Darts Championship this afternoon.

Despite taking a 2-sets to nil lead, ‘The Joker’ lost 3-2 to Darius Labanauskas.

Still to come this afternoon, Antrim’s Josh Rock goes up against Callan Rydz.

And this evening sees Limerick’s Willie O’Connor take on Gabriel Clemens of Germany.

But star attraction is three-time champion Michael van Gerwen who opens his account with a second round match against Welsh qualifier Lewy Williams.


SOCCER

The Republic of Ireland will warm up for the start of their European Championship qualifying campaign with a friendly at home to Latvia.

The Baltic nation will visit the Aviva Stadium on March 22nd, five days before Stephen Kenny’s side take on France.

Ireland have won all five of their previous encounters with Latvia, the most recent of which was in 2013.

Manchester United return to action tonight with a Carabao Cup fourth round tie at home to Championship leaders Burnley.

There’s an 8pm start at Old Trafford.

Tonight’s other ties both kick-off at 7.45, with Brighton away to Charlton, and Nottingham Forest travelling to Blackburn.

GAELIC GAMES

The All-Ireland club football semi-finals will take place as a double header at Croke Park on Sunday, January 8th.

Dublin's Kilmacud Crokes will play Kerins O'Rahillys of Kerry at 1.30pm.

That'll be followed by the meeting of Glen of Derry and Galway's Moycullen at half-three.
