In designated areas
The European Commission has taken further legal action against Ireland today for failing to halt the cutting of peat within Special Areas of Conservation.
The EC is calling on Ireland to take action to completely end turf cutting in designated areas.
The Commission says enforcement action by Irish authorities "appears to have stalled."
Ireland now has two months to respond to the Commission’s latest legal proceedings - otherwise the country may be refered to the EU Court of Justice.
