The controversial statue was spotted in the Maynooth, Celbridge and Leixlip St. Patrick's Day parade
A familiar — and controversial — figure has made an unexpected comeback this St Patrick’s Day.
The giant statue of Saint Patrick raising a pint, which was ordered to be removed from Temple Bar last month, reappeared yesterday in a number of parades in Kildare.
The 14-foot installation, originally placed above the famous Temple Bar pub in Dublin, was taken down by Dublin City Council less than a day after it first appeared.
The council’s removal of the piece sparked widespread debate, both online and in traditional media, over its appropriateness and artistic value.
Now, the statue has resurfaced on the back of a trailer rolling through the streets of Maynooth — and, according to Kfm listeners, also featured in the Celbridge and Leixlip parades.
Photos shared on social media show the towering figure of St Patrick holding what appears to be holding a vase of shamrocks instead of a pint of Guinness.
It seems the patron saint isn’t quite ready to retreat from the public eye just yet.
