This marks the first arrest in the investigation, which was reclassified from a missing persons case to a murder inquiry four years ago.
Searches are being carried out at two properties and land on the Kildare/Wicklow border as part of the investigation.
On Friday, Jo Jo's sister, Kathleen Bergin, made an emotional appeal on Kildare Today for information.
You can listen to that interview here.
Kathleen reminded people of the route Jo Jo took from Dublin city, missing her bus to Kilkenny, taking a bus to Naas, and hitching a lift to Moone, where she made a phone call to her friend, the last known interaction with JoJo.
