Public consultation on long-awaited safety upgrades at the Red Lane bus stop near Tougher’s Industrial Estate is set to begin within the next four to six weeks.

However, officials say no interim works will be carried out while the consultation process is pending, warning that doing so could suggest bias and lead to duplicate spending.
Funding for the project has also not yet been secured.
The stop has been the subject of safety concerns for years, with passengers currently being set down onto a grass verge that becomes heavily waterlogged in wet weather.
Passengers are also at risk when they try to cross the road.
Bus driver Sean Conroy previously described the location as one of the busiest in the county, warning it is only a matter of time before an incident occurs and highlighting major accessibility difficulties for wheelchair users.
While a shelter exists on the opposite side of the road, no equivalent upgraded facility has yet been delivered on the Red Lane side.
More than 500 bus stops across Kildare have been identified as requiring upgrades.
