Shocking images have emerged of illegal dumping around the Kildoon area of Nurney near Martin's Pub.
The images come at a time when Kildare County Council told Kfm that they have no update on plans for CCTV to tackle illegal dumping.

In February, authorities were given powers to utilise CCTV to combat the pervasive issue of illegal dumping.
Taken this morning, the images show large piles of plastics, beer cans and black bags dumped into a stream.
Locals are planning to convene this Sunday at 1pm clean up the area.

The co-ordinating body that works with every local authority across the country was recently given stronger enforcement powers to deal with the issue.
Three regional WERLAs - Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authorities - were set up in 2015, and have been given more resources and powers.
When asked if the council plans to utilise these new powers, a spokesperson for the council said: "In December 2023, each Local Authority entered into a joint service level agreement with the WERLA’s which serves to strengthen the collaboration between the parties to maximise the potential for successful outcomes to waste enforcement and regulations within the regions."
They added: "The Local Authorities will continue to lead on all aspects of their waste enforcement role within their jurisdiction. The WERLA’s will provide assistance and support to local authority investigations / enforcement actions. WERLA's enhanced role will require them to carry out investigations and, where requested, to take enforcement actions regarding certain agreed instances of unauthorised waste activities."
However, when asked about the use of CCTV to tackle illegal dumping, the spokesperson said: "At this point in time, we have no further update regarding Kildare County Councils plans to utilise CCTV at illegal dumping spots."

The number of fines issued by Kildare County Council for littering in 2023 doubled compared to 2022.
Figures obtained by Kfm show that 91 fines were issued in 2022 but that increased to 182 last year.
There were no illegal dumping fines issued in 2023.
