Each team will work with Defence Forces personnel to test and refine their solutions.
Five Irish research teams have advanced to the Seed Phase of the 'Research Ireland – Defence Innovation Challenge'.
The initiative supports the development of new technologies for the Defence Forces.
The funded projects cover a number of areas, including modular shelter systems for rapid deployment in various environments; maritime awareness tools to improve vessel identification for naval operations; and aerial navigation for search and rescue, aimed at faster response in emergencies.
Other projects focus on aeromedical dispatch software to support real-time decision-making in air-based medical services, while another project will focus on advanced imaging technology using electronically tuneable lenses for defence applications.
Each team will work with Defence Forces personnel to test and refine their solutions.
The programme includes three phases: Concept, Seed, and Prize.
The winning project will receive €1 million to bring its solution to full deployment.
