High-quality CCTV footage captured the events on Main Street, Clane, aiding officers in their pursuit of the suspect.
Gardaí have identified a prime suspect in connection with a violent car hijacking that left two women traumatised and requiring hospital treatment.
The incident, which occurred late on Sunday night, has sparked a major investigation.
Gardai, according to the Irish Independent, have zeroed in on a known criminal, primarily based in a town in Meath, who is now wanted for immediate arrest.
Good-quality CCTV footage captured the events on Main Street, Clane.
The attack took place around 10:45 p.m. outside local businesses Macaris and New Peking on the Main Street.
The suspect, a man in his late 20s, is also being sought for a series of alleged thefts in Athlone, County Westmeath, dating back to January.
He has a history of multiple convictions, including similar offences.
A source familiar with the investigation described the attack as "a random act by a desperate man." The same source emphasised the urgency of apprehending the suspect, stating, "The sooner he is off the streets, the better – he is obviously desperate for money and is a threat to the public."
Gardaí believe the suspect frequently moves between Athlone and Navan.
The investigation remains ongoing, with gardai urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
Yesterday, Detective Shona Nolan told Kfm that the incident would have been extremely "frightening" for the women involved.
