Nine out of 25 hospitals are impacted.
The Health Service Executive (HSE) "must explain" the cause of disruptions to chemotherapy supplies to nine hospitals.
With some cancer patients' uncertain when they are going to get chemotherapy, there is growing concern over the lack of clear communication and the potential impact on patient outcomes.
Speaking to Kfm, Steve Dempsey, Director of Advocacy & Communications at the Irish Cancer Society, said it’s "very distressing for patients affected to have their treatment interrupted".
He said the delays have heightened concerns over the critical importance of timely cancer treatment and demanded that the HSE not only resolve the current situation but also provide a "full explanation" of how these delays occurred.
The call comes after Kfm revealed that nine out of 25 hospitals are experiencing difficulties accessing chemotherapy for patients.
We have requested a full list of the hospitals impacted by the disruption.
Since July 31st, the HSE has been aware of disruptions to chemotherapy services provided by healthcare company Baxter, which is based in Sandyford.
The HSE said it does not yet know what the impact of the delays will have on patients.
