This afternoon Kildare County Council confirmed the appointment of Lakelands Civil Engineering Limited to undertake the construction contract of the Maynooth - Confey section, of the Royal Canal Greenway.
The contractor is beginning preparation works on site this week.
18 months is the expected length of construction.
The project is funded by the National Transport Authority.
