Despite this, the motion was passed yesterday by Cllrs Bill Clear, Seamie Moore, Evie Sammon, Carmel Kelly, and Ger Dunne.
It was voted against by Cllrs Fintan Brett and Ann Breen.

Officials also said waiving charges would conflict with the County Parking Framework, the Kildare Climate Action Plan and national transport policy, describing it as contrary to efforts to cut transport emissions.
The executive warned that free parking at Christmas would send a contradictory message on climate commitments and urged councillors not to adopt the motion.
A majority of councillors, however, decided to pass the motion to suspend pay parking from Monday, 15 December to Wednesday, 31 December.
