Ryan Weir Gibbons died in hospital a few days after being found unresponsive at Magee Terrace, Kildare Town on 26 October 2025
A manslaughter guilty plea has been entered at Naas Court regarding an incident which led to the death of a Kildare man last year.
19-year-old Ryan Murphy, of Curragh Plains, was originally accused of the unlawful killing of Ryan Weir Gibbons, who died in hospital a few days after being found unresponsive at Magee Terrace, Kildare Town on 26 October 2025.
In November 2025, the court heard there had been an earlier exchange between both men on a bus.
Detective Sergeant Pat Dunne told the court on that date, that Mr Murphy had been travelling with friends after a night out and that a verbal dispute broke out when Mr Weir Gibbons asked the group to quieten down.
Both men got off at separate stops but encountered each other again shortly after 3am, when an alleged altercation took place.
It was alleged that a single blow caused Mr Weir Gibbons to fall to the ground.
During a bail application, at that date, the defence said Mr Murphy would claim he acted in self-defence and noted he had presented himself to gardaí on the morning of the incident.
Following a court hearing in Naas District Court two weeks ago, it was indicated that the defendant would be entering a plea of guilty of manslaughter.
This plea was formally entered last week.
