Housing takes centre stage with €102 million - up from €88m last year - allocated to address rising demand for social and affordable homes.
Kildare County Council has unveiled its €260 million Budget for 2025, prioritising housing, transport, and community projects.
Housing takes centre stage with €102m - up from €88m last year - allocated to address rising demand for social and affordable homes. This includes energy retrofitting, homelessness services, and repairs for over 6,400 council-owned units.
Road infrastructure will see €48.5m - up from €44m last year - for maintenance, safety, and active travel initiatives, including the development of greenways and safer pedestrian crossings.
The largest spending areas in Kildare County Council's Draft Budget for 2025 include:
Housing and Building (€102 million): This accounts for nearly 40% of the total budget. Priorities include social and affordable housing, retrofitting, homelessness services, and maintenance.
Road Transport and Safety (€48.5 million): Investments focus on road maintenance, safety improvements, and active travel infrastructure like greenways and cycling facilities.
Development Management (€31 million): Supports economic growth, planning, and community regeneration projects.
Environmental Services (€26.4 million): Covers waste management, climate adaptation projects, and emergency services.
On the revenue side, local property taxes and commercial rates are key contributors, while specific grants from the Exchequer will fund nearly half of the Council’s income.
