Pedestrian safety has been an issue highlighted by local residents
Kildare/Newbridge MD Office says it is seeking funding to carry out improvement works to the junction at Brownstown to increase visibility
and driver awareness, following the recent installation of a bus shelter in the area.
Kildare County Council also said it is installing a zebra crossing at the junction to help improve pedestrian safety, with these works expected to be completed this year.
Residents have called for the crossing to be installed there for a "a long time", according to Labour Councillor Pat Balfe on Kildare Today.
"In terms of the bus stop itself, there will be warning signs prior to it, to warn and make sure vehicles don't overtake."
He assured that he "understands the concerns" in relation to the location of the bus stop there, but insisted that it's "the only place where that bus stop could've been placed".
The NTA and Kildare County Council had initially decided on the location for the bus stop in the area.
"I know there might be more suitable locations along the Brownstown and Maddenstown road [to place a bus stop], but they weren't deemed suitable because of services and underground facilities that are there," he added.
Cllr Balfe had previously highlighted the importance of "safer pedestrian access" following the installation of the second bus shelter in the area.
"I've also had queries from people living in Suncroft about bus shelters in their locations, the issue there is that bus shelters are determined based on the services that go through the village itself.
"I'm working with Deputy Mark Wall in relation to the NTA and the previous budget to look at bus routes, and I'm hoping for some positive news in the coming months," Balfe concluded.
