Earlier this month, the Council appointed an engineer to undertake the construction works
Kildare County Council has said that works at Cherry Avenue Park in Kildare Town may have to be extended due to ground conditions.
At a recent council meeting, it updated members that the timescale for the completion of the construction work is 36 weeks.
The contractor expects to be starting enabling works at the end of this month.
However, KCC warned that the timescale may need to be extended due to wintertime conditions expected during the works, and the effect that will have, particularly when it comes to grading the soil on the site.
Donnelly Civil Engineering will undertake the construction of Phase 1 development of the Park.
These works are set to include upgrades to the existing entrance, construction of a car park, grading throughout the site, a perimeter path and seating to facilitate circulation through the park, as well as landscaping throughout the site including tree and shrub planting.
The Council concluded by saying that the park will require a period of time for grass and wildflower areas to establish after construction is complete.
This is needed before the park can be opened to the public, with the timescale for this will depending on how the work progresses.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Labour Councillor for Kildare/Newbridge MD Pat Balfe described the works as "fantastic news" for the town:
"It's fantastic news for the community in Kildare Town, and I will continue to update people if we receive any new updates.
Cllr Balfe added that the "great news" will be of huge benefit to the town, as the local community can expect to see works ongoing in the following weeks.
