Critical repair work on the Ballymore Eustace to Saggart watermain is continuing progress as crews were able to remove the damaged section of pipe.

Repair work on one of the country's most important water pipelines has reached a significant milestone, with overnight progress made on the Ballymore Eustace to Saggart watermain that serves Kildare, Dublin, and parts of Wicklow.

Crews have successfully exposed and removed the damaged section of the pipeline, allowing the next phase of the operation to begin.

The work also includes repairing 15 leaks along the 26-kilometre watermain.

The pipeline supplies drinking water to around 1.7 million people, including homes and businesses across Kildare.

Water supplies have been maintained throughout the repair operation, with no widespread disruption reported.

The next stage will see the replacement pipe installed before the watermain is reconnected and returned to service.

Work is continuing at several locations over the Bank Holiday weekend as specialist teams complete the repairs.
