A man has been arrested by Gardaí in Athy as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged threats to cause criminal damage to the Abbey Hotel on Monday.
On that day a report was made to Gardaí after a man entered a residential property on Stanhope Street in Athy and engaged in alleged threatening behaviour, claiming he wanted to burn down the hotel.
It comes after the Mayor Of Athy, Cllr. Brian Dooley has condemned the racist rhetoric circulating in Athy in recent days.
A protest is due to take place outside the Abbey Hotel this evening, where 44 people are being accommodated, including 17 children.
