Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after the death of Ryan Gibbons, who was seriously assaulted in Kildare town on Sunday.
Mr Gibbons was found unresponsive on Magee Terrace on the Dublin Road shortly after 3am and later died in hospital.
Gardaí say a post-mortem examination has been completed and they are now treating his death as murder.
Friends and neighbours have been left devastated. “It still hasn’t really hit me yet, to be honest, and so close to our home as well,” said friend Kayleigh Moran.
“There was a lot of good times that he gave us and they’re memories that we’re going to cherish forever.”
Gardai are continuing to appeal for witnesses.
They are asking anyone who was in the Magee Terrace area of Kildare Town between 2am and 4am on Sunday to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kildare Garda Station on 045 527730, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
