National Homelessness Figures Drop For First Time In Months, With Decrease Also Seen In Kildare

Adults make up more than two thirds of the total, with Dublin remaining the most acutely affected area

For the first time this year, the number of people accessing emergency accommodation in Ireland has decreased.

In the Department of Housing's Monthly Homelessness Report, 17,447 adults and children accessed emergency accommodation during the week of 25-31 May 2026.

It is a drop of 101, compared to April 2026's figures of 17,548.

In Kildare, 211 people accessed emergency accommodation.

It is a decrease of 12, compared to April's figure of 223.

Meath recorded 327 people accessing emergency accommodation in the final week of May, and 85 in Wicklow.
