Talks are ongoing between St Patricks College and the local university
A local councillor has said that plans for a swimming pool in Maynooth are at a "junction point".
It has been revealed that the progress of the plans rely on negotiations between St Patricks College Maynooth and Maynooth University.
Fine Gael Councillor for Clane-Maynooth MD Tim Durkan had recently asked for the council to provide an update on the provision of a swimming pool for Maynooth.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Cllr Durkan said that the progression of the talks are essential to the provision of the pool:
"It's at a junction point at the moment, with negotiations ongoing between St Patricks College Maynooth and Maynooth University, and until they come to fruition we can't move forward."
Cllr Durkan said that some planning has already taken place in terms of assessments undertaken:
"The council have had experts out from Italy in terms of regenerating the pool in Maynooth and they've carried out assessments of that, so all that work is done already. We're just waiting now on the two bodies for the negotiations to come to a conclusion and we can move forward."
Kfm recently reported on the shortage of swimming pools in Kildare, as well as recent plans for a new swimming pool in Leixlip.
