It is hoped that previous money raised could be transferred to Kildare County Council for the delivery of community recreation facilities
Fianna Fáil Councillor for Kildare-Newbridge MD Suzanne Doyle has given an update on funds originally raised for a new Kildare town swimming pool, since reallocated for other uses in the town.
It follows the recent findings that there is only one pool per 81,000 people across Ireland.
Speaking on this mornings Kildare Today Cllr Doyle, mentioned the lack of swimming pools in the county.
"[Kildare] is the fourth largest county in Ireland, but in fact Offaly has more pools than we do."
Originally, trustees had raised money of under €200,000 for the area, with only two of the trustees still remaining,
Accepting that the money raised by the original trustees, would not be enough to fund a swimming pool, it is hoped the money can be used elsewhere in the area.
Despite no full agreement being made yet, Cllr Doyle said that there had been a development, and that it is hoped that the Charity's Registrar will "transfer the funds to Kildare County Council to be ring-fenced for delivery of community recreation".
"They talked about Cherry Avenue Park as a place to deliver something concrete, work has began there, for it to be a public park."
