The proposed Dublin Road development included a two-storey building containing five apartments, alongside four semi-detached houses.
Plans for a residential development in Kildare town have been refused by An Coimisiún Pleanála over concerns about its design and potential impact on the town's architectural heritage.
The proposed Dublin Road development included a two-storey building containing five apartments, alongside four semi-detached houses.
The applicants had appealed an earlier refusal by Kildare County Council, with the Commission ultimately deciding to uphold that decision despite an inspector recommending approval subject to conditions.
The site is within the Kildare Town Architectural Conservation Area, and the Commission found the proposed development did not respond appropriately to the character and setting of the area.
Concerns were also raised about elements of the building's design and the level of amenity that would be provided for future residents.
