The issue centres around reports that International Protection applicants may be housed there, when a sale process is completed later this year
A protest has been organised for outside the Moyvalley Hotel and Golf Resort this Saturday at 12 midday.
Hotel Management told Kfm earlier this month that the facility will be undergoing a sale process later in the year, but no confirmed sale has taken place as of yet.
It’s understood that one interested buyer has contacted Kildare County Council and applied for a planning exemption, to change the use of 32 apartments on the site for the purposes of accommodating persons seeking International Protection.
Currently, the apartments are used as short-stay self-catering accommodation.
According to official records on Kildare County Council’s website, a Mr. Kawaljit Sandhu made the application on the 17th of October 2024, and the Council is understood to have requested “further information”.
This follows a similar application by a Mr. Karl Sandhu that was made on the 22nd of August 2024, but was withdrawn on the 12th of September 2024, again according to records on the Council’s website.
It's understood that Kildare County Council confirmed to Mr. Sandhu on the 19th of December 2024 that the re-purposing of the apartments would be considered an exempted development and a planning exemption would apply.
