Punchestown Man Aubrey McCarthy Leads Tight Race For Third Seanad Seat

Michael McDowell has been elected on the NUI panel, with Ronan Mullen and Alice Mary Higgins set to take the two remaining seats.

The Seanad election race is heating up.

Michael McDowell has been elected on the NUI panel, with Ronan Mullen and Alice Mary Higgins set to take the two remaining seats.

On the Trinity panel, outgoing Senators Lynn Ruane and Tom Clonan look set to keep their seats.

The third seat will be a fierce battle between former Ireland rugby international Hugo MacNeill, two Green party candidates in Hazel Chu and Ossian Smyth and Independent Aubrey McCarthy from Punchestown who currently leads the way.

Former Minister Katherine Zappone looks set to miss out.
