Fresh concerns have been raised over the dumping of nitrous oxide canisters in Kildare following another discovery on The Curragh.
Local representatives say the issue presents both a public health risk and a waste-management problem, with Kildare County Council previously indicating it does not have suitable facilities to safely store and dispose of the canisters.
Newbridge councillors Chris Pender and Peggy O'Dwyer are among those calling for action.
Cllr O'Dwyer is due to raise the issue at a full council meeting later this month and has advised members of the public against attempting to dispose of canisters themselves because residual gas may remain inside.
Kildare South TD Shónagh Ní Raghallaigh and Newbridge-based Senator Fiona O'Loughlin have also raised concerns about the health effects associated with recreational nitrous oxide use, particularly among younger people.
