A taxi driver who repeatedly sexually assaulted a female passenger trying to make her way home after a night out in Newcastle, Dublin has been jailed for five-and-a-half years.
Naveed Rana, of Ballynakelly Gate, Newcastle, was tracked down thanks to the survivor's quick-thinking in taking a photo of his car as he drove off.
He admitted sexually assaulting the then 18-year-old woman three times.
After dropping off her friends after a night out in Dublin city last October, Rana told her to get in the front seat before driving away from her destination.
He then started sexually assaulting her while still driving.
The woman feared for her life.
She told gardai he eventually parked the taxi and sexually assaulted her for a final time.
She managed to text her location to a friend.
This panicked Rana into dropping her off. As he drove off, she took a photo of his car, which was used to track him down.
The court heard the woman suffered severe mental health issues and lives in constant fear that something like that will happen to her again.
